UPCOMING ZONING PLANNING MEETING...
We have mentioned a few times that one of our goals is to open a preschool campus at the corner of 26th and Bank St in the old Grace Lutheran church building. We purchased the church building in the fall of 2019 and started demo to convert the old Sunday school building attached to the church into a preschool that can house 100 kids aged 1 – 5 years old. When COVID hit all construction came to a halt, but we were able to purchase additional lots next to the church to put together plans for a whole preschool campus. These plans included outdoor play space, and parking for staff and families. As we started putting together the plans for the campus, we learned that in order to complete what we wanted to do, we would need to seek a conditional use permit from the city to be able to use the church as a pre-school and convert the lots into a full campus with playground and parking. Below is the architectural drawing of the plans which shows the current lot lines and which buildings will be demolished.
We submitted these plans to the city about a month ago and per their process we now will have an open community meeting to go over the plans and seek community comments. The plans include demolishing two existing structures that have been abandoned and are beyond repair to make space for the playground and parking lot. From the renderings below you can see what the goal is for the finished space. We have changed the plan slightly to have the entrance to the parking lot only be from the alley so that cars won’t be pulling out onto 26th St. The entire property will be landscaped with trees, bushes, and flowers. The outdoor play space will have an age-appropriate playground set as well as green space for plants and exploring.
The public hearing will be Tuesday April 12 at 6pm at Porkland BBQ. We have posted the public notices and are also inviting all of you to join us that evening. We will be going over the plans in detail and answering any questions that the community might have. If you are available that evening, please consider coming down to Porkland!
While we may have some new menu items like burgers and rolled oysters, fish is still king! Come by and grab some fish today for lunch or dinner!
