PRE-SCHOOL ZONING UPDATE...
On Tuesday of this week we held the public meeting about the conditional use permit for the pre-school campus on 26th St. Our goal is to transform the old Grace Lutheran church and 5 lots next to it into a state of the art day care/ preschool for our neighborhood. We plan to put an outdoor play space as well as outdoor garden and a paved parking lot with landscaping and fencing to create a park like setting for the preschool campus.
In order to create the parking lot and outdoor play space we will need to demolish 2 abandoned houses that are unsalvageable. The plans we submitted to the city show which houses will be demolished and what we will do with the remaining lots. The public meeting was held at Porkland BBQ this past Tuesday. We had a great turn out of neighbors to see the plans and ask questions. Almost all of the surrounding property owners came to the meeting to ask their questions, and they all showed support for our plans. One of the neighbors even volunteered to help us plan out the landscaping that will surround the campus, which will end up being right next to her house.
Our next step is to submit to the city the results of the public meeting and get on the schedule for the planning and zoning commission board. Once we are on the schedule there will be a hearing for the commission to decided whether or not to grant permission for us to move forward. We will keep everyone posted on when that hearing is scheduled. It will be in our favor to have neighbors that support the plan to attend the hearing if possible. Thank you everyone for all of the support!

Yesterday Heuser came to Mighty Oak Academy and screened all of our students for hearing and speech. We are excited to begin this partnership with Heuser. They found that a majority of our students need some form of speech or language therapy from mild help with pronunciation to more focused work with language articulation. Heuser will be working on sending a speech pathologist on a regular basis to the school to work with our students and scheduling a screening for all of our students again in the fall.
