A Very Happy Halloween…
Dia de los Muertos, Halloween, All Saints Day. These traditions each have specific customs and details associated with them, but the general idea is one of souls after death. I generally don’t get too involved in holidays but it is hard to not have a lot of fun at breakfast as all the kids come dressed up in their costumes. That fun was not the only bright spot in the week. In the week of the holiday that celebrates death, the Love City community has had three babies born.
The first baby that was born this week was Mighty Oak parent Tori’s. Tori has two children at Mighty Oak already. You may have met her last year at the receptionist desk or at Mighty Oak events. Tori was born and raised in the community and has a beautiful heart to see her community thrive. She gave birth to a baby boy named Ryan Jr.
Many of you have heard Sebastian’s story before, or even met him at Love City events. Growing up in the neighborhood, Sebastian and his twin sister were regulars at open gym. Shawn has pictures of them as 10 year old kids, shooting hoops and having fun in whatever after school activities they could get themselves into. After his mom’s death in high school, he got reconnected to Love City and grew close to Shawn. As he got older, he decided he wanted to work at Love City and dedicate his life to helping uplift his community. Now, he just had a child of his own. It is beautiful to see that desire to change a community give birth to the next generation, and be passed on to them. We are looking forward to seeing his daughter Sierra grow into a world changer and supporting them in their journey.
We met Layla through her family who are pillars in the community and who have been around Love City events from the start. Her younger brothers go to school at Mighty Oak. She was a perfect fit for working at Merriment when we started. She has been a huge part of helping us get up and running, and if you have come by the thrift shop you have probably met her before. She also had her baby this week, also a girl, named Amelia Mae.
We look forward to seeing this next generation grow up and celebrate milestones with them, seeing their birthdays, their first days at school, getting their licenses, and changing the world. With all of you all that support us, follow our community’s journey, and that know Sebastian, Layla, or Tori, we wanted to let you know that all of them had their babies. All of the babies and mothers are doing good and are healthy. We are looking forward to the future that has now grown a little bigger for our Love City community, and we are thrilled to see new life come into this world during a week that is normally focused on death.
