Who You Gonna Call...?

Who You Gonna Call...?

Living in a neighborhood with older houses creates many problems when temperatures begin to drop. Pipes bust, poorly insulated houses chill quickly, and fires in abandoned houses from people just trying to stay warm all become common issues. The good part about being in community is that we are able to help one another out.

For many of our neighbors, we are the first people they think to call. We are close in proximity and they know that we will help them in every way that we can.The days that school was snowed out last week were spent taking neighbors heaters and blankets, setting up warm rooms in their home, and helping them with plumbing issues. That may not be the ideal way to spend a snow day for most people, but it has to happen. Jesus and the disciples spent many days the same way, just helping out their neighbors.

The beautiful thing is, it seems like every year Love City is the first call for more people. I think that is a testament to the deepening of our relationships in the community every year. A show that the trust that people have in their neighbors is being restored. Another great part of being that first call for people is it brings the mission back into focus for those of us that live in the community.

Eight years ago, none of us could have predicted what Love City would become and what different needs of the community Love City would meet over the years. What I do know is that none of us would have been surprised to hear how our snow days were spent. They were spent very tangibly living out the first piece of the mission we set: to Love our neighbors and community. It is an honor that we are trusted enough by our neighbors that we can be some of their first calls.
