Communities Provide...

Communities Provide…

When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the wilderness, they were stepping out on faith. They were leaving harsh conditions, but conditions where their basic needs for survival were met. Yet in the wilderness, they walked into nothing, with their only chance of survival being God’s provisions. Even through their disobediences and complaints, God provided manna and quail. Not just enough for them to survive, but an abundance where everyone was filled and there were still more provisions. In 1 Kings, Elijah is called out into the desert, and God sends his provisions by ravens. Throughout scripture and history God has provided for His people.  At Love City, we are fortunate enough to get to witness God’s provisions for our community first hand.

A year ago, we put together a grant proposal. The proposal was for funds to get a new passenger van that would help us with transporting kids to school and field trips. We were notified over the summer that our proposal was accepted and we could begin looking for a van. For months were scoured for a van that felt right. We found vans that were in our price range but had tons of miles on them or did not have enough capacity for our needs. But Jesus says that the Father gives good gifts, ones that often exceed our own expectations. And none of the vans we had found felt right, and we refused to compromise, even as the deadline for the grant approached. The grantmaker graciously gave us an extension, and we continued to search.

Unknown to us, another buyer had arranged the purchase of 100 brand new vans through a local dealership. At the last minute, they decided there was one singular van that they wanted to hold off on for a year. And so, God set aside our new van for us. With the help of the dealership and individual donors we were able to match the funds of the grant to get the perfect van for us, brand new. A van that we could trust to help us get our kids transported safely and comfortably. This is just one of the many stories of God’s provisions that I am sure you have heard through the history of Love City, and I am sure it will not be the last.

Just this past week we had a large group of nurses from Norton Audubon hospital that came to help us prepare for our upcoming Christmas program. They helped decorate the St Cecilia church building and bake cookies for our post program celebration. They also did a glove drive so that we could make sure all of our students had gloves going into the winter season. God’s provisions can come in all types of forms. Sometimes it rains down from the skies, or is delivered by birds, and a lot of times it is present in our communities and all we have to do is ask, be patient, and have our eyes open to receive. It makes life in the wilderness possible when we wait as God uses communities near and far to provide.
