How does the mission work?

Our second issue of the love story continues to share what's happening in and around Love City.  Read on for your weekly dose of love!

How does the mission work?

Each spoke must fit into one of the four pillars we identified as a hallmark of a healthy community: Economic Stimulation, Healthcare, Education or Affordable Housing.  For example Porkland fits economic stimulation by providing jobs to people in the neighborhood and healthcare by providing fresh food in a food desert.

The action that spurs the mission at Love City is loving people as they are. This action feeds the goal of Love City which is to equip the saints to do the work.  We want to empower our neighbors to build their own community.  This where what we call our spokes on the wheel come in.  Each "spoke" is a program that helps our neighborhood grow the communtiy.

WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK?

This past week we started our first two week camp, Creative Arts!  We had various art project all week including a little drama and dance!  Next week we're looking forward to a visit from Kentucky Shakespeare and learning some music!

WHAT'S HAPPENING NEXT WEEK?

Mighty Oak Academy

Next week we will have week two of our creative arts camp! Kentucky Shakespeare will be here on Monday to teach drama and we will continue with arts and crafts and music.

St C's Tees

St C's Tees is open for business!  Here is an example of some custom artwork we did for a client's t-shirt.  If you have any t-shirt or apparel needs find us at: www.stcstees.com

Every week we'll spotlight a different area of Love City.  This week we're excited to spotlight our restaurant Porkland BBQ.  Porkland opened in March of 2018 serving hand crafted BBQ, and fresh fried fish.  Over the years we've expanded the menu including salad, street corn, and even tomato pie and chili.  Even though the pandemic Porkland stayed strong through take out and was able to fulfill it's mission in the neighborhood, keeping 6 people employed and providing fresh food for the neighborhood.

Meet Staci, she is the manager at Porkland.  She lives around the corner from Love City and Porkland.  Her son Jordan is 5 and attends Mighty Oak Academy.  Staci has been in the restaurant business for 20 years and loves her neighbors and community.  Stop in Porkland today to say hi!

The Porkland team is always trying out new recipes to tease your tastebuds.  This week we have 3 flavors of house made roasted cashews: Rosemary, Sweet Cayenne (a team favorite) and BBQ.  Be on the look out over the next few weeks for some yummy summer additions to the menu!
